03-05-2026 MMC-16 supported by AFL OLTS
The AFL Flowscout OLTS MPO/MMC simplifies testing of 400G/800G/1600G networks. As a native 16-fiber Tier 1 tester, it specifically supports high-density MMC-16 connectors and enables full certification of 16 fibers in just six seconds—in a single pass.
In addition, the AFL FlowScout OLTS also supports the MPO interface and single-fiber measurements.
How does an OLTS measurement work
In an OLTS (Optical Loss Test Set) measurement, a light source is used on one end of the fiber link and a power meter on the other. It precisely measures insertion loss at 1310 and 1550 nm, automatically compares the values against thresholds, and delivers clear pass/fail results. This reliably documents the total loss balance of the link in compliance with standards.
MMC-16 – a compact alternative to MPO?
“New connectors such as MMC are therefore not a disruptive one-size-fits-all solution, but complementary building blocks within a scalable fibre-optic ecosystem capable of meeting the demands of hyperscale performance applications.” says Harald Jungbäck of Rosenberger-OSI in an current blog post.
The MMC connector from US Conec is a Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) multi-fiber connector that enables extremely high packing densities and is ideally suited for 400G, 800G, and 1600G networks.
IT managers, data center planners, and test engineers benefit from significantly reduced test times, maximum accuracy, and ease of use in high-density environments.
